Turkey YouTube

With court’s decision in Ankara, after two and a half years they removed the ban on YouTube in Turkey. Prohibition of access to the public came into force after the Turkish authorities estimate that some footage are offending person and work of the founder of the modern Turkish state – Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

International Service for licensing based in Germany, owned by a citizen of Turkish nationality, acquired the rights to remove controversial material. At a time when the images removed, reacted to the court in Ankara.

The ban initiated many discussions about freedom of speech and opinion, especially regarding the Internet, a part of the users continued to visit prohibited material with a proxy service. Minister of the main opposition party, Gürsel Tekin, reminds us that censorship is still present because of the Turkish citizens are still forbidden to more than 4000 other Web sites.

YouTube once again put the disputed recordings – a new ban?

After deliberation and examination of materials, YouTube has decided to return the shots because they believe in no way infringe their copyright guidelines. Mention service from Germany has managed to remove the footage just by logging of Copyright Infringement.

How insulting the founder of the state in Turkey is a crime, we can only speculate whether a Turkish court again reacts and whether the consequences would be more difficult than a ban.

YouTube in Turkey is currently still available
